Alexandra Portillo
Our founder, Alexandra Portillo, known as “Alex,” has dedicated her career to early childhood education and is passionate about creating a nurturing and inclusive learning environment.
Alex’s journey began in Mexico City, where she spent her early years before moving to Brooklyn, NY. Adjusting to a new country was challenging, but once she found her place, school became one of her favorite spaces. Inspired by her mother’s influence, Alex discovered her true calling in education, recognizing the profound impact of the first five years of a child’s life. Since then, she has dedicated herself to early childhood education and has taught toddlers and preschoolers in both public and private institutions.
In the classroom, Alex’s commitment to hands-on learning is evident as she can often be found on the floor engaging with children through play. She firmly believes that play is not just for children but for adults too, as it fosters creativity, imagination, and meaningful connections.
With a strong background in Early Childhood Education, Alex holds a M.Ed in Curriculum & Instruction from Southern New Hampshire University and a BA in Early Childhood and Psychology from CUNY Brooklyn College. Recognizing the need to support and develop ECE educators in their career journeys, she began collaborating with various non-profit organizations six years ago.
About Everlearn Education
In the heart of Alex’s journey, a remarkable chapter unfolded during the unprecedented times of the pandemic. As an experienced instructor, her days were filled with imparting knowledge to eager learners. Little did she know that a profound revelation awaited her, reshaping not only her perspective but also the future of Everlearn Education.
As the world grappled with uncertainties, Alex’s commitment to education deepened. The shift to remote learning prompted her to create videos for her preschool students, becoming a lifeline of connection in a time of isolation. Yet, it was during this period that Alex’s awareness expanded beyond the classroom walls.
The challenges faced by educators and the educational disparities intensified by school closures became clearly apparent. Alex recognized the importance of not only teaching children but also uplifting and supporting the very pillars of early childhood education—the educators themselves.
In the midst of uncertainty, a vision took root. The pandemic served as a catalyst, making Alex acutely aware of the need for a professional development community for educators. A place where they could find support, guidance, and a collective spirit to navigate the evolving landscape of education.
Thus, Everlearn Education. emerged not just as a response to the educational challenges but as a beacon of hope and growth for educators. Alex’s dedication expanded beyond traditional teaching; she envisioned a community that nurtures overall career development for educators, helping them chart the right pathways for their professional advancement.
